Broadway Art Tours
The Village of Broadway in the Cotswolds has a long and exciting history of artists who, over the years, have lived-in and been inspired by its views, buildings, characters and past-times. Jeremy Houghton, who now lives and works in the cottage where he was born in Broadway, has put together a fascinating tour of the village, incorporating all the relevant land-marks and buildings associated with Broadway's illustrious art history.
This 90 minute walking tour, will include stories and visuals of artists such as John Singer-Sargent, Alma Tadema, JM Barrie, Mary de Navarro Anderson, Henry James, William Morris, Frank Millet, Edwin Abbey, Alfred Parsons, Gordan Russell and many others, who all retreated to this quiet village to sample rural Cotswold life, and pursue their art. Broadway and the North Cotswolds was also the birth place of the Arts and Crafts movement and the 'rebirth' place of the Pre–Raphaelites up in the iconic Capability Brown inspired Broadway Tower.
Jeremy has inherited a love and knowledge of Broadway's history from his Grandfather, who moved to the village in 1930's as the new village doctor, and soon began to take an interest in Broadway's fascinating history. He wrote many books about the village and accumulated a vast collection of manuscripts, photos and artefacts referring to Broadway's past. Jeremy has compiled his tour with the help of these historical masterpieces, and is the ideal person to enlighten and entertain visitors to Broadway, who would like to know more about its colourful past.
These tours must be personally arranged and will be £20pp unless you have a group booking and then the price is negotiable. Please contact the artist to find out more information.
